Let’s face it: it’s not easy being a host—especially when it comes to planning your kid’s birthday party. Between nailing down a theme and venue, planning food and decor, and making sure it’s extra sweet and memorable for your kiddo, it’s perfectly normal for guest list etiquette to fall to the end of your priority list.

One question we hear from hosts often: how do I tactfully tell my guests that there is no room for siblings at my kid’s birthday party? We totally get it! There isn’t always room in your budget or at your venue for everyone to bring their entire family, and that’s ok.

We recommend informing your guests that you won’t have space for siblings as early as possible, aka in the invitation itself. That way, guests can plan for a babysitter or make arrangements to drop off and pick up the invited child. Here are some suggestions for how to word this on your invitation, so you can just copy and paste your favorite and put it directly in your Evite!

  1. No siblings, please!
  2. Due to limited space, we kindly ask that only the child who’s invited attend.
  3. Although we love your little one’s siblings, we regretfully cannot accommodate them.
  4. Limited guest list due to space and logistics. Parents are welcome, but unfortunately please do not bring additional siblings.
  5. We kindly request that this event be for invited children only. Please leave siblings at home!
  6. Currently, we have a limited headcount, but we will let you know if more space opens up for siblings.
  7. Once we receive a final headcount, we’ll let you know if we have room for siblings to attend, too.
  8. Sorry, but we can’t accommodate siblings.
  9. We’re keeping this party small, so as much as we wish siblings could attend, space is limited to invited children only.
  10. Sorry, no siblings this time.
  11. [Birthday kid’s name] asked for a small party this year, so no siblings, please!
  12. Just a heads up that due to space, we can't accommodate siblings this year.
  13. We really wish we could invite siblings, but due to space constraints, we can’t at this time.
  14. Please note that we are unable to accommodate siblings at this party.
  15. Invited guests only, please!

Of course, feel free to tailor any of the options above to meet your needs (and to make it your own!). Good luck out there, and happy hosting!
