Wedding Invitations FAQs
What information should I include on a wedding ceremony invitation?
Wedding ceremony invitations are among the most detailed when it comes to the details (it’s a big day, after all!). Here’s what you should include on your wedding invitations:
1. Host line: Whoever is hosting the wedding ceremony is mentioned first.
2. Request line: The line that invites guests to the wedding.
3. The soon-to-be-wed couple’s names.
4. The date and location.
5. Any reception information.
You can also opt to include dress code and RSVP information on your wedding invitation. You can get all of the details on what to include on a wedding invitation from our Wedding Invitation Wording and Formatting Guide.
Can you send out a ceremony-only wedding invitation without reception info?
While many couples do opt to include their reception details on their wedding ceremony invitations, most will include a brief “Reception to follow” line at the bottom and send a separate wedding reception invitation with all the details. Sharing the reception information on a separate invitation is especially favored if the reception is happening at a separate location, as you have more room for the location’s address and directions.
How do I word wedding ceremony invitations?
How you choose to word your wedding invites depends upon several factors, including what type of ceremony you’re having (formal, informal, traditional, modern) and if you’re having a faith-based ceremony. Every wedding and couple is unique, so there’s no one right way to word a wedding invitation. Our Wedding Invitation Wording and Formatting Guide is the perfect place to get started, with a step-by-step breakdown of each part and examples for every kind of wedding ceremony!
How many months before a wedding should you send invitations?
If you’re sending out a wedding save the date, we recommend sending your wedding invites 6–8 weeks before the wedding. If you opted to not send save the dates, or if you’re having a destination wedding, consider sending them out even earlier, around 2–3 (or even 4) months before your wedding day. Learn more about when to send out wedding invites.
What are the benefits of using digital wedding ceremony invitations?
There are so many benefits to going digital with your wedding invitations, including:
1. They’re cost-effective. Digital wedding invitations cost a fraction of what their traditional paper versions cost.
2. They save time. Couples don’t have to spend time going to a stationery shop (or trying to guess what their online paper invitation orders will look like IRL), waiting for their wedding invites to be printed and sent to them, or going to the post office to mail out possibly hundreds of invitations. It only takes a few minutes to create and send your Evite wedding invitations!
3. You can choose designs and experiences paper wedding invitations can’t offer. In addition to being able to customize the text style, color, format, spacing, envelope, liner and stamp to ensure they suit your preferences, you can also add a beautiful background and choose to send an animated design.
4. You have the power to make and communicate changes instantly. While hopefully none of the details of your wedding day change, if you do need to pivot from your original plan, you can easily and quickly update your digital wedding invite with Evite (and let your guest list know about the update ASAP).
5. They’re eco-friendly. Instead of using paper, digital invitations are sent electronically, helping to reduce paper use and waste!
6. You can add registries right to your invitation. With Evite, you can add up to 3 registries of your choice right to your invitation so there’s no need for someone to search for your registry or scan a code. You can also opt to raise funds for a charitable cause or add a honeymoon fund to your Evite wedding invitation.
7. You can easily send your wedding invitations via email, text or shareable link with Evite. No more worrying about your wedding invites getting lost in the mail or being misplaced!
8. Free, effortless RSVP tracking. As soon as your guests RSVP to your wedding, you’ll instantly receive an email and/or SMS text message depending on your communication preferences. You can visit your “My Events” page to see the full count at any time.
