12 ways to slay your high school graduation outfit

Yearbook-style collage of high school graduation outfits with doodles on it.

Written by Jennifer Heilbron

As a parent with a teenager, I am already getting choked up thinking about his high school graduation. Granted, we have two years still, but I know all too well how fast time flies. My son has a pretty decent fashion sense (for a “bruh”), but I have witnessed many mom friends agonizing for months with their daughters about finding the PERFECT graduation outfit.

Whether you (the graduate!) or you the MOG (Mother of the Graduate) are here and ready to shop, rest assured that I have gone to the end of the internet to find you some seriously pic-worthy fits. And the best part—you don’t even have to fight about it. Happy Graduation!

The effortless-but-make-it-cute gal

You love a feminine pop, but are not ready to get glam—especially under a big hot cap and gown. This mini floral skirt paired with a simple slim white tee and white sneakers is summery and fresh without trying too hard.

The one who's ready to rush

The silhouette of this dress is feeling very sorority rush to me and would be perfect for a graduate heading to a school with a big Greek system because it’s a guarantee she will wear it again.

The one who's ready to ruche

Right now, bodycon dresses with ruching are making their way across middle and high school dance floors. Add a pair of dunks and your graduate is hitting all the style do’s.

The valedictorian

To me, a valedictorian is poised, polished and possesses an understated elegance, and this dress says just that! I love the linen texture and wrap and ruffle. Paired with a wedge espadrille that allows for an easy walk up to the podium and beautiful sunnies to protect your eyes from the sun while your grad delivers her speech, this outfit is one for the books!

The leader

From student council to the president of multiple clubs, this grad was a multi-tasking leader and is destined for great things. She fits well with this two-piece short set that went viral last summer and made its way across all the influencers’ style books.

The girly girl

Sure, she seems innocent but she’s got an edge and we love that about her! This floral romper is perfect as it can be dressed up or down and is a slight departure from your average floral dress. We see our girly girl wearing this beyond graduation to summer barbecues, beach bonfires and maybe even a summer movie date!

The athlete

The star on the field or court—she’s comfortable in a uniform and feels at her best when she’s doing her thing. This chic tennis dress goes beyond the game and can be worn for a more dressed-up occasion. Paired with crisp white sneakers and sunnies that are designer dupes, this girl is winning the graduation game!

The trendsetter

For the graduate who has a maturity about her and is always just slightly more ahead of the other girls in the style department, this strapless knit dress and lace-up flat pairing is pure perfection. She looks like she could be in Cabo but will look just as effortlessly chic in the backyard BBQ luncheon her parents are throwing!

The low-key lady

To her, comfort is key and her style is a reflection of her true self—low-key, low-maintenance and all-around cool girl. Teens are loving all things bottom baggy! Paired with a crop top and a classic Air Force 1, this look is definitely going to get a few snaps!

The one who's everyone’s friend

This is one of my favorite looks of them all! A feminine floral skirt paired with a darling crop top and high-top sneakers says: She gets great grades, is the life of the party, is loved by everyone and doesn’t break the rules. Okay, so maybe this is what I wanted to be thought of as in high school, but still—this outfit has my heart!

The hardly clueless

Last but certainly not least on our list, this dress that’s giving Elle Woods meets the high school crew of Clueless. This Chanel-like shift is as cute and appropriate as it gets. Paired with another Chanel-like shoe and giant oversized sunnies, this outfit will make all the moms swoon and your grad feel like she is ready for greatness (without breaking the bank!).
