Look… some of us are really serious about our 9 PM bedtimes and have tried and failed to make it to that midnight ball drop the past few years (we may or may not be writing from personal experience). Whether you’ve got little ones with early bedtimes or you’re a NYE party fanatic looking to bring the magic of the ball drop into your home, this DIY project (courtesy of Emily Wheaton) is a truly special way to ring in the new year. We can’t quite bring Ryan Seacrest and his Rockin’ Eve to your house, but this is the next best thing. Ready to set up a poppin’ party at home? See how in 3…2…1… happy crafting!

Materials:

Instructions:

  1. Cut your curtain or fabric into two pieces.
  2. Punch or cut small holes a few inches apart along one side of each piece.
  3. Weave the string through the holes to connect the two pieces, leaving a 6-inch tail on one end, and a tail long enough to reach the floor on the other end.
  4. *Safely*… tape the tarp to the ceiling on the two outer sides, leaving the fabric relaxed enough that there is space between the material and the ceiling.
  5. Fill this gap with balloons and confetti.
  6. Once it’s time… grab that long piece of string, give it a pull, and watch the party magic come cascading down!
