What to write in a teacher appreciation card

Teacher Appreciation Week may fall on the first full week of May each year, but basically anyone will agree that teachers deserve love all year long. After all, teachers are true superheroes, juggling classrooms full of kiddos and shaping the minds of future generations!

When it comes to letting the educators in your life know how much you value their hard work, you truly can’t go wrong with a teacher appreciation eCard. Whether you’re sharing a silly or sincere note, sending a card is a sweet and heartfelt gesture certain to make their day.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through a few ways to make your teacher appreciation cards awesome. And while we won’t be quizzing you on this material, we highly suggest you jot down a few notes anyway because these tips are A+!

Express your thanks

Write something that lets them know just how grateful you are for all they do! Whether you’re a student writing directly to your own teacher or a parent writing on behalf of your little one, adding a few words expressing your thanks is a great way to communicate that their work has impacted you and/or your kiddos.

Examples:

  • Thank you so much for all you do!
  • From the bottom of my heart, thank you for an amazing year.
  • I am so grateful for your hard work and commitment.
  • Words cannot express my gratitude for you!

Reference their subject

A little nod to their discipline is always a good idea! There are plenty of puns for every academic subject, so don’t be afraid to sprinkle a clever little message into your note.

Examples:

  • For math teachers: You = Awesome. It’s simple math!
  • For science teachers: Your guidance has been elemental!
  • For English teachers: Feeling grateful for you is as easy as ABC!
  • For history teachers: You’ve had a historic impact!

Add some humor

One of the best signs of a successful card is its ability to bring a smile to someone’s face! In addition to expressing your thanks to your teacher, adding some humor can help brighten their day.

Examples:

  • Not all superheroes wear capes, some teach!
  • Thanks for proving that anything is possible—even staying on top of the world’s most chaotic class!
  • Congrats on an amazing year of turning every “huh?” into an “aha!”
  • If there was a competition for the world’s hardest job, teaching would be #1! Thanks for being such a champion!

Add a quote about teaching

Sometimes, the words you’re trying to find have already been said by someone else! Consider including a meaningful quote in your teacher appreciation card to emphasize your gratitude for your educators. Coupled with a personal note written by you, you’ll be on track to seriously make their day!

Examples:

  • “It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge.” - Albert Einstein
  • "The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery." - Mark Van Doren
  • "In learning you will teach, and in teaching you will learn." - Phil Collins
  • “Education is the way to move mountains, to build bridges, to change the world.” - Oprah Winfrey

Share a fond memory

Of course, something personal is always a great choice. Remind them of a funny moment from the school year or a time when their hard work really impacted their students. There are so many wonderful moments to look back on and your recipient will love the opportunity to reminisce!
