You are cordially invited to learn more about the artist behind some of our most charming invitations, Phoebe Tillem! We can’t get enough of her imaginative, colorful designs, so of course we had to ask her more about her creative process and aesthetic.
Evite: What excites you the most about your collaboration with Evite?
Phoebe: I love to think about other people finding joy in and using my designs to invite loved ones to their special events.
Evite: What inspires your work?
Phoebe: So much! Nature, other artists, books, fashion, food. You never know what is going to inspire you.
Evite: When you have a creative block, what pulls you out of it?
Phoebe: A walk with my dogs, a hot shower or bath, just taking some distance from whatever it is I'm stuck on.
Evite: What is your proudest moment as an artist?
Phoebe: Seeing my work sold in my favorite stores on the stationery products I create with my sister. And having a piece published in a book! That felt really cool.
Evite: Mystical icons are a hallmark of your work. What is it about them that draws you to them as an artist?
Phoebe: I grew up in Northern California with parents and family that love unique art, religious and mystical iconography. Growing up surrounded by this and my studies in art history during college has very much influenced my work.
Evite: What advice would you give to an aspiring creator?
Phoebe: When you put your energy behind something, you really never know what opportunities will come your way. On that note, advice I constantly give myself: don't panic when work is slower, just create and don't be too precious about it!
