In the year of Brat Summer, demure gatherings, and supper clubs galore, it’s no question that the 2024 parties were, in fact, partying. Our team took a look at trends from the last year* — from who’s throwing the biggest events to the most commonly used themes —  and we’re giving you a rundown on the state of party culture. Spoiler alert: y’all partied hard this year. We love it.

Here are 2024’s top party trends across the nation:

Can anyone top D.C??

For the second year in a row, Washington, D.C. is landing at #1 in top party markets. See who else partied the hardest…

Want the nitty gritty details? We took the total number of events hosted and attended, and weighted by each state’s population to calculate the results — trust us, our data team did all the smart beep-beep-boop-boop maths to get this data. Parties are a real science, okay?

Nothing like a good theme party

Here are the most popular party themes of 2024, for kids and adults.

Themes determined based on the style and graphics in templates used by Evite hosts.

Who goes hardest for the holidays?

We’re glad you asked. These states had numbers way above the national average… like way.

It’s simple girl math: The national average for each holiday is based on the number of themed events that occurred compared to the total number of events. The top state averages are then compared to the national average to find the front runners.

Next year, this better be donuts

Picture this: you’re heading to an event or potluck and don’t know what to bring. Curious what America’s go-to is? The most popular item to sign up to bring to an event is… drumroll please… salad. #2? Fruit.

It’s in the name

Here are the most common names of people throwing events in 2024. If yours is on the list, congratulations — you’re a certified party person.

Here’s to 100 🎂

This is pretty amazing — we celebrated 2,163 people’s 100th birthdays this year. That’s a whole century! Congrats to everyone who reached this major milestone.

Because we never run out of party ideas…

Whether you were bingeing a show or running a whole lot of miles, marathon-themed events saw an uptick this year over last year — and these 5 states saw the highest increase.

  1. Iowa — 100% more marathon-themed events than 2023
  2. Arizona — 55% more events
  3. Georgia — 35% more events
  4. Missouri — 13% more events
  5. Washington — 10% more events

Yeah, we welcome all kinds of marathons here. For the record, most of these are the running kind, but it’s not quite possible to sort out miscellaneous film-related stragglers from this data set. Eh, we’re okay with that.

Party superlatives by state

Most down to party…

Cheers! These 5 markets are most likely to RSVP “Yes”  to your event:

  • New Hampshire
  • Rhode Island
  • Connecticut
  • Maryland
  • New York

Most likely to play hard to get...

These 5 markets are least likely to RSVP “Yes” to an event:

  • South Carolina
  • Tennessee
  • Mississippi
  • Montana
  • Wyoming

Most likely to ghost…

Ahh… very mysterious. These 5 markets are least likely to reply to an Invitation at all:

  • DC
  • Montana
  • Mississippi
  • Wyoming
  • South Carolina

Let’s nerd out. We calculated the percent of 'Yes' replies out of the total guest list for every event, then averaged that across all events that occurred in each state and looked at top and bottom results from that list.

It’s Taylor’s world (and we’re just partying in it)

This era isn’t over — in fact, maybe it’s only just begun. 7.2% of all Super Bowl parties this year were Taylor Swift-themed. Go sports!

That’s a wrap on 2024! What type of party energy do you think 2025 will bring?
