College and grad school

Freshly graduated

Welcome summer and your next chapter with a splash of citrus! This “freshly graduated” theme turns a classic glass of lemonade into the iconic inspiration for a seriously sweet soiree.

  • Try a self-serve lemonade bar with fun add-ons like mint, lavender, or honey sticks, and have an advice booth with a banner that reads “when life gives you lemons…”, where guests can leave their best advice for the grad!
  • The color scheme is, of course, lemon yellow. You can even use whole lemons from the grocery store to create a gorgeous tablescape (try poking holes in lemons to hold flowers as unique “vases”).

Garden grad

A garden party for a springtime graduation just makes sense. Lean into the classic motif, but give it a modern spin by picking non-traditional flowers that match your grad’s vibe.

  • Try a bouquet-making station for an on-trend and engaging activity that’s easy to DIY by gathering a mix of flowers and greenery from your local grocery store or market.
  • This classic theme makes the perfect tea party! Pair your floral theme with teatime snacks and drinks for a dainty afternoon celebration. Plus, consider asking guests to dress in florals or pastels to truly drive your theme home.

Shirley she can't be graduating

Last year, we were all in on cherry and soda shoppe grad party themes… this year, we’re combining both for the ultimate retro fun Shirley Temple-inspired bash! With an at-home dirty soda bar and all things vintage, pink, and striped, this theme is the cherry on top of an epic few years in school.

  • Decorate your space with cherry red, including red ribbons tied around champagne glasses and cherry decor on everything!
  • Hop on the bag charm trend and hand out an adorable cherry party favor your guests (and grad) are sure to love.

Grad café

Turn the internet’s favorite cafe-at-home trend into an aesthetic party your college grad will totally vibe with. Psst… if you’re getting a Masters degree, “Masters & Matcha” is also a very fun spin on this theme! Or “Coffee & Caps” with mini grad caps to top off your bevs… don’t be afraid to get creative with this one!

  • Load up on pre-made pastries (or bake if you’ve got the time), then line them up on food-grade butcher paper to create a gorgeous and authentic cafe setup.
  • Make custom coffee cups with your grad’s name followed by “cafe” to create [Name]’s Cafe and really drive home the theme.

Tying up her studies

A ribbon, a bow, and a party to throw! Before they take a bow with their degree, throw a party packed with bows to represent the end of an era as they tie up their studies.

  • No surprise here… add bows to everything as you decorate! Tie them to the base of your balloons, create a garland to string across your space, and even add them to the stems of your champagne glasses.
  • This theme is chic, so don’t be afraid to ask guests to dress up a little to make this party feel like a truly special occasion!

Girlies & grad caps

We’d say this is the party theme for the grad who says they don’t want or need a grad party. It’s lowkey and casual, while still feeling fresh and fun for 2026.

  • Give small nods to the grad cap focus by adding mini grad caps to your drinks—you can even customize these on Etsy with your grad’s name for a personal touch.
  • If your event is scheduled before the graduation itself, turn it into a celebration of your grad AND a grad cap decorating party with patches, paints, and stickers.

Party like its 2016

A whole decade later and 2016 is totally trending. Lean into the 2016 aesthetic with palm trees, lots of pink and turquoise, throwback music, and even a bowl of Babylips as party favors. Iconic, really.

  • Channel 2016’s bottle flipping trend and have guests try to flip and land a row of water bottles to win prizes.
  • Create a photo booth station with a polaroid camera and tons of nostalgic props including fun sunglasses, choker necklaces, and a cutout of the Snapchat dog face filter.

High school and junior high

The sweetest send-off

Create a custom candy wonderland for your sweet grad. Swedish candies are all the rage online right now, so your grad will love the idea of a colorful and whimsical party where you can work in all sorts of “sweet” elements like a memory book for guests to leave notes and more.

  • Try a self-serve candy station or small candy goody bags as the ultimate party favor.
  • Create a unique and easy-to-make dessert by covering a grocery store cake in a mosaic of gummy candies.

Gradchella

Music festivals are cool… personalized music festivals to celebrate your star? Even cooler. On the lineup: festival-inspired foods, a live DJ (or just an epic playlist), and palm tree decor to evoke those epic Coachella grounds.

  • Make it a backyard bash with boho flower chains as decor and disco ball cups to sip from.
  • Let guests DIY custom bandanas or fanny packs as a unique, festival-inspired party favor.

4 years later…

Channel Spongebob with an under-the-sea and over-the-top themed party straight out of the Krusty Krab. (If you’re throwing this party for a junior high grad, the theme can be “3 years later”! )

  • Create a “grad of the month” (AKA employee of the month) sign with a photo of the guest of honor.
  • “Krabby Patty” sliders and fun tropical drinks are menu must-haves!

Senior brunch

Make it a morning of pancakes and pals for your high school grad. Host a memorable senior brunch to celebrate their hard work.

  • If your child’s school hosts a “senior sunrise” event, consider hosting the brunch after to celebrate.
  • Mini pancake stacks and bite-sized avocado toasts are totally trending for grad brunch menus.

Howdy, adulthood

This isn’t their first rodeo! Plan a western hoedown that’s just as unique as your grad.

  • Grab some hay bales from your local craft store to help transport your guests from your backyard to the farm.
  • Let guests decorate custom cowboy hats as a fun and interactive activity!

The summer we graduated

It’s the show that keeps on giving… we’re channeling our inner Belly for a grad party inspired by The Summer I Turned Pretty and all of its East Coast magic. Dare we suggest a two-tier dark chocolate cake with a raspberry coulis filling and a mirror glaze to celebrate?

  • Decorate with hydrangeas and driftwood to set a very New England scene.
  • They may not be Belly’s infinity necklace… but gift your guests friendship bracelets for everyone to take to high school or college next year.

Spotted: new grad

Polka dots are the pattern of the year, so we’re dreaming up a dotted dreamscape perfect for your fashionable grad.

  • Invite guests to paint polka dot picture frames where they can put their favorite memories to take to college.
  • Create a layered polka dot tablescape with a patterned tablecloth, napkins, and cups!

Preschool and elementary school

Oh, the places they’ll go

This sweet Dr. Seuss theme will always be a classic! Plan a grad party inspired by Oh, the Places You'll Go! to celebrate your little one’s next chapter.

  • Have guests sign a copy of the book as a sweet memento for your little one.
  • Hang up a map and let guests place a sticker on the destination in the world where they’d like to travel to the most.

A sweet ending to a new beginning

A sugar-tastic soiree sure is a great reward for finishing their first phase of school! Channel this sweetness into a theme that encourages everyone to look forward to what’s next.

  • Create these adorable candy skewers as a fun and festive snack!
  • Need an activity to engage guests of all ages? Play a game of bingo with candies as the spot markers!

O-fish-ally a grad

We’re fishin’ for some fun! Whether you lean into an aquarium look or a swamp style fisherman setup, this party is sure to make a splash.

  • Serve cups of goldfish crackers on wooden trays for an instantly elevated and totally effortless snack!
  • Try a kiddie pool fishing game for a fun and interactive setup that doubles as adorable aquatic decor!

Caps, Gowns, & Cozies

Get ready for the ultimate graduation PJ party! Consider hosting a small group of your grad’s closest friends for a cozy graduation movie night, or have a daytime PJ party for the whole class.

  • Throw mini grad caps onto all of your little one’s stuffed animals for a sweet decorative touch.
  • Evoke a cozy sleepover by planning a menu with classic breakfast favorites like mini toaster waffles, french toast sticks, or a colorful cereal bar.

A little hunny just graduated

Winnie the Pooh is an all-time favorite when it comes to parties for our pre-school aged kiddos, so we had to include at least one bear-y cute theme. Pooh has his own grand adventure, and your little one has their very own grad adventure!

  • Hand-write or print encouraging quotes from the Winnie the Pooh books to hang all around the space, to uplift and inspire your guests.
  • Plan a special scavenger hunt that doubles as a fun adventure for your guests. The prize? A darling set of Winnie the Pooh books!

This time of year always has us feeling extra sentimental! Whether they’re turning 8 or nearly 18, it’s truly wonderful how much your child has accomplished. Ready to celebrate their next chapter?
