Look, we love seeing our friends. But, these days, we have to admit that it pretty much always takes an “excuse” to get everyone together. With busy schedules, so many moving pieces, and life somehow always getting in the way, it’s totally natural for time with your people to fall to the wayside.

Well, we’re here to break that slump! It’s time to rally the crew and get together, so we’re setting you up with seven great reasons to get together with friends in March (and fun party themes inspired by each reason!).

1. The Oscars

The Oscars are on Sunday, March 15th this year! Gather your group to celebrate cinema with a Hollywood-inspired soiree that’s fit for the stars.

💭 Theme ideas

  • Movies & mocktails: Turn on the award show and set up your non-alcoholic bar cart! Invite friends over for a simple evening of watching the Oscars and sipping some movie-inspired mocktails. Can we interest anyone in a very orange spritz in honor of Marty Supreme
  • Red carpet supper club: Roll out the red carpet and invite your guests to dress in their finest attire! “I had nowhere to wear this” parties are becoming increasingly popular, and the Oscars are the perfect occasion to invite everyone to break out the red carpet look they’ve had sitting in the back of their closet.

2. Pi Day

March 14th (AKA 3.14) is Pi Day! While you may remember Pi Day celebrations from grade school, this math-focused holiday is a smart and sweet excuse to get friends together for a nostalgic celebration!

💭 Theme ideas

  • The great pi bake-off: Sure, this holiday’s namesake is not that kind of pi. But, baking actually requires a whole lot of math, so we’re pretty sure this qualifies!  Invite friends over for some bestie baking and see who can make the best pie! If you really want to double up on the idea, you can also add some friendly competition to see who can recite the most numbers of pi!
  • Sweet as pi: No surprise here, we’re all about the pie. Plan a “Pi Potluck” where everyone brings a delicious pastry to share. Don’t forget to use the event sign-ups section on your Evite to let guests sign up for the type of pie they’re bringing, so you don’t end up with seven pumpkin ones!

3. Women’s Month

March is Women’s History Month, and there are so many incredible ways you can get together to celebrate the contributions women make to society every day.

💭 Theme ideas

  • Community book club: Plan to read a book by your favorite woman author, then invite everyone over to discuss it! We recommend checking out this list from our friends at Reese’s Book Club to get inspired.
  • For the girls: It’s no secret—being a woman in this world is hard work. Invite the strong women in your life for an afternoon of rest and empowerment. Plan activities like affirmation journaling and spa-inspired moments to help reset, recharge, and continue doing the amazing work they’re doing.

4. Daylight saving time

On March 8th, we finally spring forward! Yes, we’ve been counting down the days. Welcome longer days and lighter skies with a festive spring soiree.

💭 Theme ideas

  • Sunshine soiree: Celebrate the sun with a bright and bold party! Think monochrome yellow party decorations and outdoor activities (if the weather allows). If it’s not quite sunny where you are yet, bring the warm weather vibes with tropical drinks and a spring-inspired craft, like basket decorating or pressed flower collages.
  • Garden gathering: Spring means that the flowers will soon be in bloom! Manifest a bounty of florals with a flower arranging party where everyone gets to take home their DIY bouquet.

5. St. Patrick’s Day

Lucky us, we’ve got plenty of reasons to celebrate in March, including… St. Patrick’s Day! St. Patrick’s Day is on March 17th, which means it’s time to get a spirited celebration on your calendar.

💭 Theme ideas

  • Lucky charm party: One thing about us is we’re going to recommend this adorable charm bracelet party theme! Get all the details on how to host this bash here
  • St. Paddy’s day cafe: Turn the at-home cafe trend extra seasonal with a very green spin! Prep cafe essentials that are gorgeously green like matcha, pastries with pesto, or green apple tartines.

6. First day of spring

The first day of spring is March 20th. Welcome the new season with open arms by hosting a party in its honor!

💭 Theme ideas

  • Spring fling: Host a picnic or backyard gathering packed with lots of gingham and plenty of pastels. Don’t be afraid to turn this one into a tea party and include those delicious (and easy to prepare) mini sandwiches!
  • At-home farmers market: Spring is a prime time for farmers market goodness! Celebrate the season by inviting friends to bring their own “farmers market item” (a pastry or any other creation) to set up on a table that all your guests can “shop” from.

7. March madness

March Madness begins on March 15th this year, so a basketball-themed bash is a total lay-up in the party planning department.

💭 Theme ideas

  • Bracket brunch: Invite friends over to fill out brackets for the tournament! Even if basketball isn’t normally your thing, it’s a super fun way to get invested—who knows, it may just be your next fixation! To emphasize the “brunch” part of this party, try making pancakes with chocolate chips mirroring the lines of a basketball. If not, a tower of oranges on your tablescape to evoke basketballs will certainly suffice.
  • Dunk contest: This would be such a fun party to host with your friend group. Let’s be real… on how many occasions have you seen your friends try to dunk? This theme is entertaining and totally spot on for the month. BTW—you can absolutely have your dunk contest occur on a Nerf hoop.
