Inspiration has a funny way of showing up. Sometimes it’s a drink I can’t stop ordering (matcha, lately), other times it’s the color of a dress I wore out with friends. That’s how a green grazing table and an all-yellow celebration came to life. When you’re tuned in, everyday details become the seed for something meaningful, and yes, beautiful.

Luxury doesn’t have to mean expensive. It’s about how something makes you feel. With a little strategy, a lot of heart, and a few tricks I keep up my sleeve, you can throw a party that feels elevated without spending like you’re hosting royalty.

Here’s how:

1. Drop-off catering, done right

Skip the live chef stations. Instead, have your caterer drop off plated dishes and style them yourself. Plate on simple wooden boards, finish with edible flowers, and you have a moment that feels curated, not catered.

2. Mix high with low

Think of it like fashion: Gap Studio poplin shirt with Khaite denim. I love investing in great linens and cutlery, but I’ll pair them with compostable Bambu plates or Repurpose cups. Beautiful, functional, and no rental fees.

3. Personalize without custom ordering

Find a charming object like a hair clip, pouch, or notebook, and make it your own. I’ll send these off to a calligrapher or hand-decorate with hot glue and stencils. Embroidery is luxe, but screen printing gets the point across with a little less spend.

4. Double-duty favors

A name tag and a take-home in one: a mini tote, a jar of something homemade, even a decorated cookie. Bonus points if it doubles as part of the entertainment (a DIY activity, perhaps?)

5. Buy once, use often

Build a toolkit of neutral, reusable pieces, natural block print tablecloths, wooden bowls, glass coups. They change vibe according to whatever florals or tabletop accents you bring in.

6. The new florals

Rosebud vases with single stems are effortlessly elegant. Add fruit (think: grapes, tomatoes, even lemons), and suddenly your tablescape feels like an editorial. I’ve been layering in cordless tabletop lamps lately—they change everything.

7. Always add layers

A buffet needs dimension. Crates, baskets, cake stands—anything to build height and texture. I mix budget finds with pieces I’ve collected over time, and I always keep a few neutral risers in my event kit.

8. Keep the bar simple

Don’t feel like you need to offer everything. Two cocktails or just wine is more than enough, especially if presented thoughtfully. You can even skip the bartender entirely and create a styled, self-serve drink station.

9. Let your obsessions lead

That drink you love. That color that keeps showing up in your wardrobe. Use that as the creative jumping-off point. When something feels personal, it always feels special.

10. DIY cakescape

If you’re celebrating a birthday, skip the elaborate bakery order. Go for a simple cake and top it with your own florals or create a cake grazing board by stacking cute slices of cake and filling in the gaps with details like Trader Joe’s meringues. And always, always add flowers. It’s my favorite touch.

In the end, it’s not about how much you spend. It’s about how much intention you bring to the details. Style is in the layering, the reimagining, the quiet confidence of a moment that feels entirely yours.
