If there is any artist whose album releases warrant extravagant parties, it is Taylor Swift. And, with the upcoming release of her 11th studio album “The Tortured Poets Department,” fans worldwide will definitely be coming together to celebrate.

The only question is: How do you plan the best TTPD release party?

First, let’s break down what we know about the album so far. TS11 consists of 16 songs, each with gloriously cryptic titles ranging from “Fresh Out the Slammer” to “Florida!!!” (yes, the three exclamation points are included) to “So Long, London.” While we can only speculate what and who these songs are about (*cough cough* Joe Alwyn), fans are starting to piece together this era’s key themes.

Dark academia vibes and a black-and-white color palette seem to characterize the album’s aesthetic given Swift’s anguished energy in the cover art, the handwritten poem accompanying her Instagram announcement and her elegant yet subdued gown and gloves at the Grammys. It’s giving yearning, it’s giving heartbreak, it’s giving wandering down cobblestone streets and writing gut-wrenching journal entries in candlelit libraries.

So, after thorough research, we’ve put together this guide to throwing the best TTPD party. Complete with decor finds and activity ideas, use this guide to plan a wondrously mysterious party befitting a true tortured poet.

Given the album’s references to London, it’s only natural to pull some inspo from a classic English tea time for your tablescape. Accompany your tea party paperware with a gray table runner and some parchment-esque napkins.

Bring out your friends’ inner poets by gifting everyone journals, feather pens and a candle beside which to do their writing.

Imagine the reading room of an old university’s literature department. There’s probably an antique globe, some vintage wall art, book-filled shelves and big leather couches. Channel that energy for your decor.

4. The outfit

Dark academia mixes with Hollywood glamor in most fans’ readings of this era’s emerging style. Think tweeds, plaids, pleated skirts and pants, loafers, black and white pieces and plenty of elegant jewelry.

5. The activities

Friendship bracelets are a must for any Swiftie party regardless of the era, but for more TTPD-specific activities, set up a letter-writing station for your besties to write each other sweet notes and pass around a Polaroid filled with black-and-white film.
