You are cordially invited to take part in a new Austin tradition: it's the 2nd Annual Austin Santa Speedo Run!
It's inspired by an event first held in Boston about 7 years ago when five friends decided to don some speedos and Santa hats and run through downtown... It's now a huge charity event both there and in Toronto with thousands of runners, and this year we'll be doing the second one here in Austin.
So come join us in wearing the requisite festive, holiday-colored speedos and Santa hats to run as Team Santa Speedo at the Trail of Lights 5k fun run in Zilker park. It's a nightime fun run will feature a premiere viewing of the Trail of Lights! The Course runs through Zilker Park and the awesome Trail of Lights, with more than 180,000 lights. The 3.2 mile run will start under the Zilker Tree, wind through the south side of Zilker Park, go through the Trail of Lights and finish back at the Zilker Tree. Should be a cool (but hopefully not cold!) way to ring in the season and do some good...
Like it's Boston inspiration, it's a fundraising event -- the beneficiary is Out Youth, a non-profit organization whose mission is to support and provide services to gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and questioning youth ages 12 to 19 in Austin and Central Texas. They offer peer support groups, counseling, educational programs, social activities and community outreach.
