Haiti is reeling from a devastating earthquake, which has left hundreds of thousands homeless and without basic energy services. Portable power options like solar lamps and phone chargers will have an immediate impact, providing not only light and power, but also creating safe communities and individual well-being.  A Haitian entrepreneur who survived the earthquake stated, "In the first phase we need small solar lamps for people to use (in the tent camps) as well as solar street lights as a way to light the streets." He continued, "In the second phase, we need job creation and the best way to help over the long term is therefore to send money to help buy from local [Haitian] solar manufacturers."

EarthSpark, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and member of the Clinton Global Initiative, is working with Partners in Health, International Organization for Migration and other relief organizations to distribute tens of thousands of solar lamps to those in need.  You are cordially invited to attend our fundraiser at the Sidwell Friends School in Washington DC this Thursday the 28th from 6-8pm to support this effort and our ongoing work to develop supply chains for clean energy technology in Haiti.

During the fundraiser, guests may listen and participate in a brief panel discussion on the topic of energy and reconstruction in Haiti.  Haitian Ambassador Raymond Joseph, Rick Duke and Richenda Van Leeuwen, experts on energy use in developing countries, and Duquesne Fednard, a young Haitian entrepreneur who recently started an efficient stove business in Port-au-Prince, will be featured panelists.

About EarthSpark International:
EarthSpark was created to reduce energy poverty in developing countries by creating supply chains for clean energy technology. Last year EarthSpark opened a clean energy store in Haiti to sell products such as efficient stoves, solar lamps, and solar home systems, and to become a hub for clean energy knowledge resources. The organization has fielded over 450 energy poverty surveys in two regions of the country to determine the appropriate technologies and pricing for the products it sells in its store. EarthSpark's mission is to replicate this model in other locations in the country, which will facilitate Haiti's post-disaster recovery.
