Shabbat is the seventh day of the week, the original day of rest from biblical times that Jews traditionally welcome at sunset on Friday afternoon and celebrate all the way until Saturday night. Shabbat is a celebratory day of good food, community, and learning.
Every Friday at 5:45 PM, UMBC Hillel hosts Shabbat celebrations at the Interfaith Center. You can come for services at 6:00 PM, dinner at 7:00 PM, or both. Dinner is free, and the only thing we ask of you is to RSVP by Wednesday. The entire UMBC community is welcome.
This week's Shabbat is the one you've all been waiting for. If you only only come to one Shabbat the entire semester, you should make this one it and you should bring your entire family(parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, kids, grandchildren, everyone except the pets) along as well.
This Shabbat is free for UMBC faculty staff and of course UMBC students (like always). But there is an $18 fee for family members over the age of 13 and a $10 fee for family under 13, which I guarantee this experience will be more than worth it. In order for parents to attend they must visit:
http://www.umbchillel.org/shabbator contact Rabbi Jason Klein at rabbijason@umbc.edu
Services will start at 6:00 pm in the Interfaith Center and dinner will follow at 7:00 pm. Please come to either or both.
We would like, if everyone could bring any loose change you may have from the week and drop it in the Tzedakah box before candle lighting.
The following day Shabbat lunch (yummy bagels and spreads) will be provided in the Interfaith Center at 12pm.
We are grateful to the Nathan and Lillian Weinberg Family Foundation for generously supporting Shabbat at UMBC.
Help is very much appreciated, please show up at 4pm if you want to help.
Hope to see you there!!
