Ever wonder why this era is not generating great protest songs like there were in the 60's? Wonder no more. Two of the foremost protest singers in North America come to the Bulgarian/Macedonian Educational and Cultural Center on Sunday, October 25th at 7:30PM. Anne Feeney and David Rovics conclude a month long tour of the midwest with a show at this intimate performance venue in West Homestead.
David Rovics is called the "musical version of Democracy Now!" by none other than Amy Goodman. Author Jeremy Scahill is a big fan of this modern musical journalist. One of the most prolific songwriters at work today, David Rovics travels the world and observes first-hand the history-making events that are the substance of his songs. From the Middle East to Japan, Australia to Copenhagen, David Rovics blends his encyclopedic knowledge of history and skilled craftsmanship as a writer and musician to provide a unique and challenging look at today's headlines. Often pointed, sometimes hilarious, but always brilliant, David's songs are sung by activists around the world.
Joining Rovics is one of Pittsburgh's working-class heros, Anne Feeney. Feeney celebrates 40 years of activist music this month. Her first public appearance was October 15, 1969 at a "Moratorium to End the Vietnam War" at the University of Pittsburgh. A fixture at every peace, feminist, environmental and labor rally here during the 70s, 80s and 90s, Feeney now takes her critically-acclaimed music around the world. Her songs are also featured in several documentary films and performed by many artists, including Peter, Paul and Mary.
This musical collaboration is electric, and Sunday's show will be provocative, hilarious, inspiring, entertaining and energizing.
